The Society for the Revival of Borl Castle was founded in 2005, at a time when the castle had been abandoned and left to decay for decades. Dedicated individuals and the local community worked hard for many years to step up the activities, with a focus on the castle’s restoration, revitalization, and reopening.
Since Borl reopened in 2024, the society has primarily focused on reviving and preserving the cultural heritage of the castle, the municipality of Cirkulane and the Haloze wine-growing district. They organize an annual clean-up at Borl, hold professional and cultural events and exhibitions, and publish news and publications related to the society’s work.
The society has released the following publications as part of the Svet Belanov book series:
To promote the history of Borl Castle and its surroundings, a traditional event called Barbarno (St. Barbara’s celebration) is organized every year in early December. The event taking place in the square in front of St. Barbara’s Church in Cirkulane features historical figures of Count Georg Friedrich and Countess Maria Barbara Sauer from the 17th and 18th centuries, who meet with their subjects on the patron saint’s day.
